Interesting Summer

This summer was a little more challenging than others. I tore my shoulder in January and found out in April that I needed to have shoulder surgery. The doctor knew I had a SLAP tear, but didn't know the extent of the injury and told me he wouldn't know until he could get in there and look. So, we had two weeks to prepare for either a 6 week recovery or an 8 month recovery and anywhere in between. Luckily, we got the in between. I had a SLAP tear and a rotator cuff tear that they were able to repair arthroscopically. I was in a sling for about 10 weeks and hopefully this week which is the 5 month mark they'll tell me I'm good to mostly go. I won't be able to lift above my head for a few more months, but that doesn't affect me too much. We had a great and short (due to all the lovely rain) summer. Carter started school last week and seems to like it. Although, he told his grandma that he's finished for the year. So, we'll see how it goes!!! All in all everything is well. I'll be posting pictures soon.

Spring 2010

Carter LOVE chocolate. This is his idea of heaven!

Carter loves to exercise. He took one of my candlesticks and was "doing his weights." Pretty cute!

Preschool Puddle Day!

Carter's wonderful preschool teacher, Miss Julie. He LOVED her. She really knew how to get the best out of him.

Carter's buddy, Ethan, showing their muscles.

Tulip Festival

For 11 years I have wanted to see the amazing Tulip Festival. This was finally the year I would do it. My friend, Jen, and I decided to take the kids and enjoy this magnificent site. We drove 1.5 hours to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm and well, it was magnificent alright. Every aspect of it, including the mud!!

It started out okay. The kids were very intrigued by the whole event. Here's Emi admiring a beautiful flower.

Gavin and Carter had fun trying on giant wooden shoes.

They had a great time posing in the wooden tulips. And then.....

.....it turned into this! We spent the rest of the time watching the kids play in the mud. A mud puddle with a view what could be any better? Maybe next week we can drive another 1.5 hours to find a better bunch of mud. All in all it was a good day. Carter had a lot of fun and a lot of tears after the initial fun. The clouds came in and it got cold. Luckily, I brought a change of clothes and learned how to effectively clean a completely covered child with no running water:) Something I always wanted to know how to do!! Thanks Jen for the pic!

Carter's First Day of Skiing

This last week Carter and I spent in Utah. Carter absolutely loves the snow and has no fear, so we thought we might try and channel his energy into something constructive.
Turns out he's a natural!

Grandpa Steve decided to teach him. Here's Carter and Grandpa on the chairlift at Snowbasin.

Ready to go and so excited!

His first run. Just getting used to it.

By his third run he was going down the hill by himself! Crazy! He learned incredibly fast. We knew he would love it, but had no idea that he would catch on so fast.

He was good with just skiing until he saw this. He begged to have a ride. I told him if he got hurt bad enough he could have a ride. Luckily, he didn't take me up on that offer:)

The last run of the day and he's brave enough to try the jumps through the trees. He didn't make all of them, but he sure wanted to try. He's so competitive and it really showed on the snow. We came home and watched the Olympics and he informed me that he's going to snowboard like Shaun White. He love it so much that we decided to stay another three days in Utah. We put him in a group lesson and the instructor told me he was amazingly good. They actually said he could start snowboarding next year, normally they say age seven. Carter was really excited to hear that since he's been crying for a snowboard every day since he went skiing. It was such a great trip! Of course, since both skiing and snowboarding are a passion of mine, I was super excited that he liked it so much!

Happy Birthday Carter

Happy Birthday Carter!

Can't believe our little guy is turning 4! It's just crazy. We're excited to see what this year brings. In the last 6 months he's had 4 casts, 6 sets of x-rays, 1 dog bite, 1 big gash on the head, 2 concussion watches, 3 very bad infections, and a whole lot of near-misses. We wouldn't trade all the craziness for anything! Happy Birthday Go-Cart! We love you so much! (We haven't fallen off the face of the earth. We're just about 6 months delayed in doing just about everything! We hope you all understand!!!)
